Increase the streaming experience of opera and ballet performances to attract a new audience on https://chezsoi.operadeparis.fr/. This innovative technical solution should enrich the live and broadcasting experience, with, for example, the integration of learning contents, an online community experience, or the possibility to have access to different and additional point of views. This enriched experience can be accessible before, after, or during the video, or during the live performances’ breaks (a 20 to 30-minute intermission). It can be on the media player, the main screen or a second screen. The solution can either focus on a community-centered approach or only on the individual experience. In line with our concern for inclusive accessibility, it can also focus on improving the filming of performances for spectators with disabilities. The streaming platform will allow users to watch the performances on their computers, smartphones, tablets, consoles and TV screens.

Context / Need:
Today, the Paris Opera is offering a selection of performances on its streaming platform L’Opéra chez soi. More than affordable prices, the Paris Opera would like to offer an attractive and different experience to gain a new audience. Statistics show that a streaming platform is a strong channel to attract audiences. The gained audience is younger (20-35). Our goal is to increase the new audience share to turn the streaming website in a strong recruiting tool via a guiding and improved streaming experience. Our benchmarks show that our competitors offer classic streaming experiences. The streaming industry leaders (Netflix or Amazon Prime) improve their offer via additional content available on a digital magazine (Tudum for Netflix) or via additional roll-over information for example.

Scope:
The actual streaming website has been launched with the Viméo solution. In 2022 the Opera has launched a public bid to find a new provider in charge of the development of a streaming, tailor-made platform that will integrate a player owner. The challenge is about creating an additional technical solution for this platform.

To increase the streaming experience, the Paris Opera wishes to provide:
- Unique angles via an additional shoulder camera to shoot close-up shots and backstage shots.
- Information on the show (an act-by-act plot summary, the characters’ description, the work’s context of creation, information on the artists and interviews).
- Data and key numbers (i.e.: how long it takes to make the set designs, how many people it takes to create the show…).
- Stories about the Paris Opera and its two venues.
- Learning and interactive contents via the webapp aria (already featuring quizzes, tests and short learning contents on opera voices, instruments and jobs…).
- Step by step comments on a song, a dance, a musical moment (to be created).
- Access to its social networks flows (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).

Create a content personalization system to offer an experience centered on the users and their interests: https://chezsoi.operadeparis.fr/.
This system needs to combine the data given by the users and their behaviors on the platform (i.e. I prefer ballet to opera, I’ve already watched 3 Italian operas, I like to watch cheerful and funny performances, or dark performances).

The recommendation system can generate push up contents or a personalized welcome page, messages and notifications. The algorithm can be coupled with a quick survey included in the personal space (i.e.: products preferences, preferred devices to watch the shows…).

Context / Need:
To offer a different and highly qualitative experience, the Paris Opera would like to implement a content personalizing system on its streaming platform. Data shows that a streaming platform is a strong channel to attract audiences. The gained audience is younger (20-35). Our goal is to ensure this new audience’s loyalty via a personalized experience.
